💡 Snooze an email: Temporarily removing an email from your inbox and scheduling it to reappear at a specific time you choose, like your alarm clock but for messages you're not ready to handle yet.
It's Monday morning, and you get an invoice that needs to be approved, but approvals don't happen until Wednesday. You can't action it now, but you don't want to forget it either. Leaving it in your inbox means it sits there accumulating visual clutter and mild anxiety. Deleting it isn't the answer. Filing it means you'll forget to follow up.
Snoozing it until Wednesday at 9 a.m. is the correct move. The email disappears from view, your inbox gets cleaner, and it reappears exactly when you need it.
That's the entire premise. It's deceptively simple and genuinely useful for anyone trying to maintain a clear inbox. Email clients like Spark have built snooze into the core workflow precisely because the "leave it there and hope you remember" strategy fails constantly.
When you snooze an email, your email client moves it out of the visible inbox and stores it in a temporary holding state. At your chosen time, it returns to the top of your inbox as though it just arrived. Some clients send a push notification at that moment too.
The snooze folder is usually accessible if you want to check what you've got pending. In Gmail, it shows up in the left sidebar under Snoozed. In Spark, it's in the sidebar under Later. But the whole point is you don't have to check it: the email comes back on its own.
Two things worth knowing: snoozing a message doesn't mark it as read, and if someone replies to a snoozed thread, the new message typically appears in your inbox immediately regardless.
In Gmail:
You can access all your snoozed emails in the Snoozed folder in the left sidebar. To change the snooze time, open the email and click the clock icon again.
In Outlook (new version):
Spark:
Steps may vary slightly by platform; see the guides for other platforms here.
Spark's snooze syncs across all your devices, which is the feature that makes it actually reliable. Snoozed emails are moved to the Later folder in webmail, or to the Snoozed folder in the Spark app. The Spark snooze feature also lets you customize your default snooze time options to match your schedule.
Don't snooze things indefinitely. Snoozing an email for "someday" without a plan is just procrastination with extra steps. Set a real deadline.
Use snooze instead of leaving emails open. An open email is not a reminder system. It's clutter. If you can't reply in the next few minutes, snooze it.
Pair snooze with a follow-up reminder workflow. Snooze incoming messages you're waiting on, and use reminders for threads where you're waiting on someone else.
Don't “over-snooze”. If you keep bumping the same email forward, that's a signal you actually need to deal with it. Snooze is for timing, not avoidance.
Snooze is one of those features that sounds minor until you use it consistently. Then you can't imagine without it.
